Money Tips: Saving Money on Your Mobile Phone Contract or Tariff

Mobile phones have become an absolute necessity in the daily routines of people all over the world. Whether it be for business or leisure, they are one of the best ways to stay connected with our family and friends. Unfortunately, while mobile phones are an integral part of our daily lives, they can also be expensive to maintain. Depending on your current mobile contract, the amount of minutes, texts and data allowances vary. If you exceed these limits, bills can really rack up.

Tips to Cut Mobile Phone Costs

  • Switch providers. If you’re nearing the end of you contract, shop around for a better deal.
  • Bargain with your network. If switching isn’t an option, try contacting your current provider to see if the price of your contract can be revised.
  • Switch plans. If you have been with your network for more than three consecutive months, and you’re using less than your month’s allowance, you may be able to downgrade to a lower tariff.
  • Keep an eye on your mobile roaming costs. While it can be tempting to use your phone abroad, this can leave you with a hefty phone bill. Remember to turn data roaming off, or refrain from using your phone altogether. Buying a local SIM card for an unlocked phone could be a better option.
  • Don’t call premium customer service numbers. Some providers charge an expensive rate to 0870 and 0845 numbers, calling from a landline instead can cost significantly less.
  • Trade in your old handset. If you are looking to upgrade your phone, some providers offer a service where you are able to trade in your old phone for a fixed value. This can make paying for your new handset more manageable.

Making Small Cuts can Make a Difference

There are many ways of cutting down on mobile phone costs. However, when a phone bill is higher than expected or it’s essential that you replace a broken handset, a MYJAR short-term loan may be right for you.
